Teacher Contact Information: sabinal@lemoyne.edu Twitter: @thisisatwitterhandle Facebook: Class Facebook Page Course Overview: Welcome to Global History 10R! I look forward to working with all of you! This year we will continue where you left off in Global History 9R. We will start with The Age of Revolution starting around 1750 and continue through the 20th century since 1945. In each unit we will be analyzing conflicts, global relationships and interactions, and trade as well as some other important aspects of history. Our goals for this class are to hone our analysis and critical thinking skills, to learn to make connections between historical events, and to make studying history an enjoyable experience for everyone! Materials: You will need a 3inch 3 -ring binder for this class with a notebook and dividers. The dividers will be used to separate handouts, homework, and tests/quizzes. Class notes will be written in your notebook unless I give you a handout to take notes on in class .If we use a handout for notes in class, please be sure to save it in your binder. Please bring these materials to every class! Your textbook should be covered but it will not have to come to every class. If we are using the text book in class I will tell you in advance so you can plan to bring it with you. Grading: Grades will be assigned based on the following criteria: · Homework : 10%- Homework is a way for us to practice the skills we learn in class. I will assign homework assignments in order to help you hone your skills as a history student, not to punish you! Please bring all homework assignments to class the day they are due. If you have an emergency and cannot complete your homework please contact me. Late homework assignments will be subject to point deductions based on the Late Policy which we will discuss below. · Participation: 10%- Everyone will be expected to actively participate in class. Participation is the easiest way for you to practice what we’re working on in class. Participation can include answering questions in class, working in small groups in class, handing in homework assignments, completing writing assignments, and completing tests and quizzes. · Writing Assignments: 15%- In this class we will be writing DBQs, persuasive essays, and a research paper. I will explain the assignments in class and you will have the opportunity to ask me questions. There will be class time for peer editing and questions/concerns about writing assignments. The writing assignments are an opportunity for you to show me what you have learned in class and to practice your writing skills as well as your critical thinking and analysis skills. Writing assignments are due on the due date in class. Once again, if there is an emergency please contact me. Writing assignments that are handed in late without an emergency are subject to the Late Policy. ·Formative Assessments: 15%- Formative assessments are a way for us to determine what we are learning and what we still need to practice as we make our way through a unit. Formative assessments are taken frequently throughout a unit to pinpoint exactly what we still need to work on or what skills we have mastered. · Summative Assessments: 50%- Summative assessments will be given at the end of each unit to determine what we have learned. Summative assessments are a way for you to show me what you have learned over the course of a unit. Assessments will vary for each unit with some assessments allowing for choice in order to address the multiple learning styles and preferences in our class.
